Executive Functioning
-
What is executive functioning?
Executive functioning is a big umbrella term to describe how an individual carries out (or executes) a set of skills in order to achieve goals and complete tasks. Some of these skills include planning, prioritizing, organization, time management, task initiation, and self-reflection. -
What coaching services do you offer?
Coaching is provided for individuals, families, and students in grades preK to high school. Meredith also coaches teachers and consults with school admin to provide support across grade-level teams. -
How does it work?
Meredith first maps out the specific executive functioning skills that need attention. She then develops an individualized plan to strengthen those skills. To make progress and build habits, it is recommended to meet twice a week in order to combine explicit teaching with practice and reflection. -
How do you measure success?
To develop a skill, it takes intentional practice and time. It is often the case that we don’t treat executive functioning skills in the same way we treat learning how to play an instrument or a sport- however, executive functioning skill development requires an equal amount of time and dedicated practice in order to see results. Success is largely based on an individual’s desire to learn a specific strategy, willingness to practice the strategy, willingness to try and try again, and most importantly, the ability to work through discomfort.
